How to Transfer WhatsApp Chats from iPhone to Android

How to Transfer WhatsApp Chats from iPhone to Android

WhatsApp chat history is one of the most important things you want to keep with you when switching phone from iPhone to Samsung or vice versa.

While most apps and chat platforms make it fairly easy to keep years of chat history with you on WhatsApp, for sure, you can use cloud backups to continue transferring your chat history from one phone to another as long as you reside on Android or iOS. However, so far, switching WhatsApp between iOS and Android means losing all your chats. Fortunately, that is about to change and you can now safely transfer your conversations between your iPhone and Samsung.

WhatsApp is the most popular chat system in the world. With more than 2.5 billion users, the service relies on Google Drive and Apple iCloud respectively to maintain online chat backups. As a free platform, it makes sense to reduce storage costs for WhatsApp - my WhatsApp backup clocks more than 15 GB.

However, encrypted backups cannot be directly connected and transferred between Drive and iCloud. Moreover, neither platform is deeply integrated on the smartphones of the competing platform. Apple doesn't even offer an iCloud app for Android devices. This makes local transfers the only real option for transferring data from one platform to another.

At the moment WhatsApp is working with Google and Samsung to allow local transfers of WhatsApp backups from iPhone to Android device. However, you will have to wait a little longer if you are looking to transfer your WhatsApp chats from your Android device to iPhone. WhatsApp claims that the feature should be available later in 2022.
